City lawyer and Wiper Party spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru has warned that the United Opposition risks fracturing into rival camps ahead of the 2027 General Election, pointing to a pattern of separately organised rallies as an early sign of division.

Njiru made the remarks hours after Fred Matiang'i, Martha Karua and Ndindi Nyoro shared a platform at a joint rally in Nakuru, an event that drew attention for the absence of other opposition heavyweights.

Njiru's Three-Axis Prediction
In his assessment, Njiru outlined what he described as three likely groupings that could emerge as the election approaches.
The first, he suggested, would bring together Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua and Edwin Sifuna. The second would comprise President William Ruto, his deputy Kithure Kindiki, and Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi. The third axis, he projected, would be anchored by Martha Karua, Fred Matiang'i and Ndindi Nyoro.
"From what I can see, and I readily admit I could be wrong, my crystal ball suggests that the forthcoming elections will crystallise into a three-axis contest: The Kalonzo–Rigathi–Sifuna axis; The Kindiki–Ruto–Mudavadi axis; and The Martha–Matiang'i–Nyoro axis," Njiru stated.
Rallies Raise Unity Questions
The prediction follows a series of rallies held by leaders who remain formally aligned under the Komboa Kenya coalition, the formation that rebranded from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition. In the previous month, Siaya Governor James Orengo joined Matiang'i and Nyoro at a rally in Narok, though Karua was not in attendance on that occasion.
Despite the separate mobilisation efforts, all the named leaders are still officially part of the same broader coalition structure.
Gachagua, for his part, has repeatedly stated his commitment to ensuring the United Opposition settles on a single presidential candidate to face President William Ruto at the ballot in 2027. However, he also cautioned that one opposition figure could defect if not selected as the flag bearer, though he declined to identify the individual or elaborate on his reasoning.
Njiru acknowledged that his reading of the political landscape could prove inaccurate, framing his comments as an observation rather than a firm forecast.
