United Serbia lead candidate Aleksandar Vucic said he can’t disclose the names of the 49 people he pardoned shortly before stepping down as president.
Vucic said he had granted pardons to 12 members of the so-called Novi Sad group of student and civic activists, as well as 11 people involved in incidents against students. He also indicated that other people, including former public officials, were among those pardoned.
The secrecy has raised questions about the procedure and whether it complied with the law. The Ministry of Justice has not published a list of the pardoned and courts and prosecutors said they had not received the relevant decisions.
The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade on Tuesday dismissed a criminal complaint filed by the Democratic Party against Vucic over the pardons, saying there were no grounds to suspect a criminal offense.
