A 23-YEAR-OLD woman has been remanded for four days to assist police investigations into the discovery of a baby’s headless body at Taman Perumahan Padang Setengge in Hulu Terengganu on Friday.
The remand order, effective from Sunday until Oct 21, was issued by Magistrate Nur Athirah Hashim at the Kuala Berang Magistrate’s Court to facilitate further investigations.
Hulu Terengganu district police chief Superintendent Sharudin Abdul Wahab said the woman was arrested at 3.30pm on Saturday.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for secretly concealing a birth by disposing of a body, regardless of whether the baby died before, during or after birth.
Those convicted under the provision face up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
The case came to light after another woman reportedly discovered the baby’s remains while washing clothes behind her house at the same housing estate. The remains consisted of one arm and both legs, and she subsequently alerted the Padang Setengge Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK).
A post-mortem conducted at the Forensic Unit of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu found that the baby had died more than 24 hours before the discovery. - October 18, 2026
