The Nova.rs news portal reported that the CEO of Serbia’s Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) resigned over an incident report.

It quoted unnamed sources who said that REM long-time CEO Rajka Galin Certic quit her job after being told to write an official note recording a confrontation between Dragan J. Vucicevic, the owner and editor of the pro-regime Informer tabloid and TV, and REM staffer Svetlana Trajkovic who wrote a report on Informer. A video posted on social media showed Vucicevic angrily confronting Trajkovic at the REM offices and telling she she should be ashamed.
REM Council member and former Equality Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic told Nova.rs that her resignation would make an already difficult situation at the regulator even more complicated. He said tensions had been building for weeks, with some Council members attacking colleagues. He also accused pro-government members of repeatedly opposing attempts to sanction certain media outlets.
REM has two distinct levels of operation. Its nine-member Council is the regulator's main decision-making body, with members elected by parliament. The CEO heads the professional and technical services, which carry out administrative, legal, financial and media-monitoring work. The staff are not Council members and are not part of the Council's decision making process.
The resignation comes amid continuing tensions within REM over the handling of complaints against broadcasters and the monitoring of television coverage ahead of Serbia's October 25 elections.
