How Google Gemini AI Is Helping Chrome Users Identify Online Scams

Gemini Nano: Google’s on-device AI model examines web pages locally, spotting scam signals quickly without sending every browsing detail to external servers.

Enhanced Protection: Chrome’s Safe Browsing setting offers faster, proactive defence against dangerous sites, downloads and extensions, and benefits from AI-driven scam analysis.

Tech Support Scams: The AI recognises fake virus alerts and full-screen warnings that pressure users into calling fraudulent helplines or installing remote-access software.

Phishing Pages: Lookalike pages imitating banks, delivery firms and payment apps are flagged before users enter passwords, card numbers or one-time codes.

Notification Alerts: On Android, Chrome uses AI to flag deceptive website notifications and warns users, letting them unsubscribe and avoid constant spam.

Gemini in Chrome: Users can ask Google’s assistant whether a page or offer looks suspicious and receive a plain-language explanation of red flags.

On-Device Privacy: Processing happens on the user’s device, so sensitive browsing activity stays private while protection remains fast, even on slower connections.

Real-Time Warnings: Chrome displays a full-page red warning before a risky site loads, giving users a clear chance to go back safely.

Staying Alert: AI reduces risk but cannot replace caution; verify web addresses, never share OTPs and avoid calling numbers shown in pop-ups.
