National Bank has resumed full-fledged banking services, allowing customers to withdraw money as needed, after initially accepting applications from high-value depositors on 11 October.
Earlier, Chairman Melita Mehjabeen told TBS that the bank would resume all banking services from 15 October and ensure sufficient liquidity at all branches and ATM booths.
"We will start accepting applications from high-value depositors from 11 October," she said.
National Bank has been unable to operate at full capacity for a long time due to irregularities and poor governance, Chairman Melita Mehjabeen said.
"Now, the central bank has instructed the bank to resume full-fledged operations. Customers will be able to open all types of letters of credit and withdraw money through cheques, RTGS, NPSB and other available services," she added.
Mehjabeen noted that National Bank was the country's first private commercial bank and had a rich legacy. At one point, the bank's deposits exceeded Tk40,000 crore.
"Customers still have confidence in the bank. We expect them to start depositing money with us again when they see that all services are available from 15 October," she said. She added that all 221 branches, 65 sub-branches and 53 ATM booths would be fully prepared to provide services as before.
Acting Managing Director Zahidul Haque said preparations were underway at all branches and ATM booths to ensure uninterrupted services from 15 October.
