By Zoila Palma: The Central Bank of Belize is warning the public about fraudulent phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to represent the institution.
In an advisory issued on October 14, 2026, the Central Bank said it has received multiple reports of scammers using Google Meet to impersonate its representatives and request personal or banking information.
The Central Bank stressed that these calls are fraudulent and urged the public not to share passwords, PINs, banking details, credit card information or other sensitive data with unsolicited callers.
Members of the public are also advised to avoid engaging with unexpected callers requesting financial information and to end suspicious calls or online meetings immediately.
The Central Bank of Belize emphasized that it does not make unsolicited calls requesting banking credentials, passwords, PINs, credit card information or other sensitive financial details.
Anyone receiving such a request should treat it as suspicious and refrain from disclosing personal information.
The Central Bank is encouraging Belizeans to remain vigilant and share the warning with family members and friends to help prevent others from falling victim to the scam.
