By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Taiwan has strongly condemned China’s decision to sanction Belize’s Foreign Minister, Francis Fonseca.
In a statement issued through its Embassy in Belize on Monday, October 12, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it firmly rejects China’s announcement of sanctions against Fonseca and Paraguay’s Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Gustavo Villate.
Taiwan described China’s announcement as absurd and said it amounts to open interference in the sovereignty and foreign policy of other countries, in violation of the principles of international law.
The Ministry said the move shows China’s attempt to use political intimidation and transnational repression to pressure other countries and undermine Taiwan’s longstanding friendships with Belize and Paraguay.
Taiwan also extended its sincere appreciation to the Government and people of Belize for standing firmly with Taiwan against oppression and intimidation.
“We also wish to extend our utmost respect for Minister Hon. Francis Fonseca,” the statement said.
