When it comes to Denver Broncos playmakers, one of the most impactful players through the first six weeks of the season has been running back RJ Harvey. Dating back to 2025, Harvey has been nothing short of dynamic. Harvey led the Broncos, and all rookies, with 12 total touchdowns last fall, and has he 44 touches but just one touchdown through six games this season.
Harvey had a season-high 17 touches in the Broncos' Week 3 loss in San Francisco, but has been quiet since then. Veteran running back J.K. Dobbins has received most of the carries under center, with less-than-desirable results. Harvey's lone touchdown thus far came from a "Wildcat" touchdown inside the 5-yard line against the Seattle Seahawks.
There is a huge fan of Harvey from the Broncos' coaching staff: offensive coordinator Davis Webb, who called the game where Harvey had his most touches of the season.
"I love RJ Harvey," Webb said to Denver reporters on Thursday. "He’s really hard to tackle. He’s special with the ball in his hands. He’s continued to develop as a runner. Under center and in the gun, I think he’s a lot more comfortable, but that’s kind of like the young quarterbacks in the gun compared to under center. In the pass game, he’s been spectacular. Catching the ball underneath and advancing for many explosive gains."
Webb also mentioned that Harvey is not a quiet participant; on the contrary, he is a vocal player who plays with passion.
"He’s such a good dude," Webb said. "You would think he’s quiet, but he’s not. He talks a lot more when you get to know him, and I’m very thankful he’s here.”
With the return of rookie running back Jonah Coleman on the horizon, Harvey could see more carries as the Broncos turn to the duo to become more of a tandem in the backfield to possibly overtake Dobbins in the rotation.
Week 7 and beyond will tell fans and the team everything they need to know about how ready Harvey may be to assume more of a role as RB1.
