Assam: Former Dibrugarh UniversityPostgraduate Students’ Union (PGSU) president Dhrubajyoti Kalita, who was also a state executive member of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), quit on Sunday, leading to intense discussion within the student body. The reason for his sudden decision has not been disclosed.
Kalita’s exit has set off a debate in the union’s circles. Known as a popular and active young leader in university politics, he is among the more visible student faces to have emerged from Dibrugarh University in recent times.
Before joining the AASU’s state executive, Kalita led the DU-PGSU, the postgraduate students’ body at Dibrugarh University. He is said to command considerable influence in and around the university area, which has made his departure all the more notable for the organisation.
His resignation has left several questions unanswered. Neither the circumstances nor the motive behind the decision has been made public, and there has been no word on whether the AASU leadership has accepted his resignation or responded to it.
Speculation is also growing over what comes next for Kalita. With his political future uncertain, observers are asking whether he will remain in student politics, join another platform, or step away from public life.
