Gresini rider fractured metacarpal bone at Indonesian Grand Prix
Fermin Aldeguer has undergone successful surgery on his right hand, but whether the Gresini rider makes the grid for next weekend's Australian Grand Prix remains unconfirmed.
The break at the base of his first metacarpal was repaired with screws during an operation in Barcelona. The #54 rider updated fans on social media to confirm the procedure went well and that he is "OK,"
The injury came on Lap 2 of the Indonesian GP at Turn 16, where Aldeguer slid off his Desmosedici while running fourth. The hand was reportedly broken when he struck the tarmac during the slide.
MotoGP Medical Director Angel Charte confirmed the diagnosis at the circuit, stating that Aldeguer had suffered a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal bone in his right hand and would require surgery.

It capped a weekend that had already gone sideways. Aldeguer qualified sixth and finished the sprint in seventh, but his Grand Prix crash was his third of the weekend. The irony stings given Mandalika is where he scored his maiden MotoGP victory in 2025.
This is also his third fracture of an injury-ravaged 2026 season. A serious practice crash near Valencia in early January broke his left femur, costing him the Sepang and Buriram tests and the season opener in Thailand, where Michele Pirro deputized.
He then fractured a vertebra at Assen in late June and sat out the Sachsenring and Silverstone, with Iker Lecuona standing in at the latter.
Gresini Racing has not issued a recovery timeline, and with Phillip Island running from October 23 to 25, the team needs to decide whether a replacement is required.
