Construction on the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension continues, and drivers and commuters are being warned of new traffic pattern changes that will last for nearly two weeks.
The Government of B.C. announced that extended hours and overnight road closures will be put in place at 140 Street and Fraser Highway from Oct. 27 to Nov. 8.
The closures is to enable a launching gantry, the Surrey Sprinter, to install the guideway at 140 Street for the future SkyTrain.

“To support this activity, overnight and weekend work will occur from Oct. 27 to Nov. 8, 2026, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.,” said Surrey SkyTrain Project in a release. “The following traffic pattern changes will be in place while this work is underway:
- No through access on 140 Street north and south of Fraser Highway. Right turn only from southbound 140 Street to westbound Fraser Highway.
- Northbound traffic on 140 Street will be detoured at 96 Avenue. Access to Laurel Drive via eastbound Fraser Highway and southbound 140 Street.”
Additional changes will take place on Thursday, Oct. 29, including westbound traffic only on Fraser Highway between Whalley Boulevard and 140 Street, through access on 140 Street at Fraser Highway, and access to Laurel Drive via southbound 140 Street.
“Noise mitigation measures will be in place, including shutting off equipment when not in use, using radios to communicate wherever possible, and turning down volume on operational alarms,” added the project office. “Lighting will be directed towards the work site.”
Drivers and commuters are also warned that they can expect delays while in the area.
Alternate routes available include 96 Avenue, 100 Avenue and King George Boulevard. Fraser Highway between 140 Street and 96 Avenue will remain closed overnight.

If all goes as planned, elevated guideway construction will reach completion in mid-2027, and station construction and related work will finish in late 2028. Railway tracks and electrical and automated train control systems installation began in Spring 2026 and will end in late 2028. Full system testing and commissioning will begin in late 2026 in preparation for the late 2029 opening.
Along the elongated Expo Line, a one-train ride between Langley City Centre Station and Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver will be 65 minutes, while the trip between Langley City Centre Station and King George Station will be 22 minutes.
The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension of the Expo Line has prompted the City of Surrey to create the Clayton Corridor Plan, which would introduce high-density, transit-oriented development to an area that is currently largely suburban and semi-rural — especially for the areas north of Fraser Highway.
The area plan is expected to be finalized by Surrey City Council in 2027.
