A Monterrey shooting on Thursday, 15 October, left two men dead in a car on Avenida Gómez Morín. By Friday, sources told the newspaper Reforma that both victims were former police officers.

What the Monterrey Shooting Left at the Scene
Gunmen caught a black Volkswagen Vento just after noon on the ramp from Gómez Morín to Morones Prieto, outlets said. Paramedics found both occupants without vital signs, according to Vocero del Norte.
La Verdad said the car had multiple bullet impacts on its left side after a chase to the ramp. Vocero del Norte said early reports describe a chase that began in San Pedro.
Reforma, in a report carried by the newspaper Zócalo, said informants described gunmen chasing the car and shooting its two occupants. Accounts differ on how far the chase ran, so this report gives no distance.
Which Authorities Are Investigating
San Pedro’s public security secretariat said the attack happened in Monterrey territory, not San Pedro, ABC Noticias and MVS Noticias said. It said it would cooperate if needed.
The AEI leads the investigation and expects to review cameras near a medical centre close to the scene, La Verdad reported. Experts from the state prosecutor’s office collected evidence, Vocero del Norte said.
Vocero del Norte said the prosecutor had not publicly confirmed any identification. No public prosecutor statement on the case appeared in the outlets reviewed.
Who the Victims Allegedly Were
Reforma said unnamed sources identified the victims from voter ID cards as former police officers. La Verdad separately cited security sources who called both men ex-police tied to a narcogroup in San Pedro.
The Reforma sources tied both men to the Beltrán Leyva cartel, which Reforma says long dominated San Pedro. The prosecutor has not confirmed that link.
An agency report in La Verdad named one victim by an alias, but Reforma said its sources ruled that out. Vocero del Norte called that name unconfirmed, and the prosecutor has named no one.

The advisory lists no travel restrictions for US government employees in the state. The attack happened on a city avenue at midday, and no change to the advisory has been announced.
What Is Not Known
The state prosecutor has not publicly identified the victims, confirmed their police careers or stated a motive. The cartel link comes only from unnamed sources cited by Reforma, and outlets disagree on who the second victim was.
No arrests have been announced, and the number of attackers and their vehicles has not been disclosed. Outlets also differ on the length of the chase and on the exact time of the attack.
What Comes Next
The AEI is expected to study camera footage near the scene, and the prosecutor must still confirm who the dead men were. Any official statement on identity, motive or arrests will settle which of the unofficial accounts holds.
