Wahala App, NIIA Forge Alliance to Deploy AI for Security Intelligence, Business Risk Management
Nigerian technology company, Wahala App Ltd, has partnered with the General Leo Irabor Early Warning Systems Centre (GLIC) of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) and real-time data analytics for security intelligence, operational risk management and business continuity.
The partnership is expected to strengthen early warning capabilities by integrating citizen-generated incident reports with AI-powered analytics to identify emerging threats, monitor security trends and provide businesses, government institutions and other organisations with information to support timely decision-making.
In a statement issued in Lagos, the company said the collaboration would give the Centre access to its Wahala Network, a digital platform that aggregates incident reports from individuals, businesses and participating organisations to provide insights into security risks and potential operational disruptions. The initiative comes amid growing demand for technology-driven solutions to security challenges, particularly as businesses seek to minimise exposure to threats affecting logistics, supply chains, personnel and other critical operations.
According to the company, the platform’s analytical capabilities enable organisations to identify recurring incidents, detect previously overlooked vulnerabilities and assess the potential impact of security developments on their operations. It explained that AI-powered analysis could also establish connections between seemingly unrelated incidents, providing insights into wider security and socioeconomic risks affecting industries and communities.
The Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Wahala App Ltd, Oriekaose Agholor, said the partnership represented an important step towards integrating citizen participation with institutional early warning systems and expanding the commercial application of real-time security intelligence.
“Safety is a shared responsibility, and timely information can help people make more informed decisions about their surroundings. Our partnership with GLIC is an important step towards connecting citizen participation with wider early warning efforts,” Agholor said.
He added that the company was seeking further partnerships with government agencies, corporate organisations and other institutions to expand the reach of its technology and improve access to actionable security information. Under the arrangement, businesses connected to the Wahala Network would be able to receive information on incidents that could affect their operations, including developments requiring adjustments to transportation routes, logistics planning and personnel safety measures.
The company said its technology could also support preventive risk management by identifying patterns of incidents that might otherwise develop into larger operational or security crises. Agholor noted that wider adoption of the platform could strengthen information sharing across sectors and help organisations respond more effectively to emerging risks.
“We invite Nigerians, businesses and institutions to join us in building a more informed and safety-conscious society,” he said.
Also speaking, Acting Head of the General Leo Irabor Early Warning Systems Centre, Dr Omotola Ilesanmi, said technology and reliable information were increasingly important to effective risk management and institutional preparedness.
“Effective early warning depends on the timely identification of risks and the availability of reliable information to support informed decision-making,” Ilesanmi said. “Technology and citizen participation can contribute to this process by strengthening awareness of emerging risks and supporting preparedness.”
Beyond institutional collaboration, Wahala App said it was expanding public engagement through its Ambassadors Against Wahala programme, which encourages responsible incident reporting and safety awareness across workplaces, educational institutions, religious organisations and communities. The company explained that its digital platform enables users to report incidents, receive location-relevant alerts and send emergency notifications to designated contacts, while its broader technology offerings provide organisations with data-driven insights for security planning and operational resilience.
It emphasised that the platform was intended to complement the responsibilities of government security agencies and emergency response institutions rather than replace existing security structures. Wahala App said the partnership formed part of its broader strategy to deepen collaboration with public institutions and private sector operators, expand the application of AI in risk intelligence and strengthen the role of technology in Nigeria’s security and business environment. The company, which specialises in real-time crisis awareness and management, operates a digital network connecting citizens, businesses and institutions through incident reporting, emergency alerts and AI-powered risk analysis.
