The NFL’s London series continues Sunday when the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1) take on the Houston Texans (1-4) at Wembley Stadium. The Texans are coming off their first win while the Jags take the field following their most unlikely win of the season.
A preseason favorite of many to contend for the Super Bowl, Houston finally got into the win column last week with an impressive 26-3 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Nashville. For the first time this season, the highly touted Texans dominated defensively, limiting Tennessee to just three points and 187 Total Yards. C.J. Stroud connected on passes to seven different receivers and threw for 261 yards to lead the attack on offense. Jacksonville, meanwhile, won a game they may not have deserved but were glad to have been gifted. They knocked off the Eagles, 19-17, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Philadelphia took the lead with eight seconds remaining. Jacksonville was without a timeout, but Ameer Abdullah managed to return the ensuing kickoff 53 yards in seven seconds. Cam Little then converted a 57-yard field goal as time expired to win the game for the Jags. Jacksonville has now won three straight. They lead the AFC South by two games over the Colts and three games over the Texans.
Stroud and the Texans have moved the ball through the air (No. 4 in the NFL with 1402 yards), but only Green Bay has gained fewer yards on the ground (No. 31 with 395 yards). Couple that disparity with an issue turning yardage into points – they have scored as a team just 11 touchdowns this season – and the 1-4 start is not all that surprising. Jacksonville’s fast start is based on the defensive side of the ball. The Jags allow yards but not points. They are the No. 2 scoring defense in the league allowing just 70 points through five games.
Bottom line: Was last week’s win the start of a turnaround for Houston or will Jacksonville build on the good fortune they received last week and for all intents and purposes end the Texans’ hopes in the division? Recent history suggests this game will be competitive with each team claiming victory once last season. The head-to-head history has produced an average margin of just 3.3 points over the last 10 meetings.
Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find an additional sweat or two.

Here are the best bets our model is projecting for Sunday’s game between the Texans and the Jaguars:
- Moneyline: NBC Sports is leaning towards a play on the Texans on the Moneyline.
- Spread: NBC Sports is recommending a play on the Texans +2.5.
- Total: NBC Sports is staying away from a play on the Total of 42.5.
Here’s why the Texans +2.5 is the Best Bet:
Three of the Texans four losses have been by less than a touchdown. Houston is 1-4 but owns a -2.0 point differential and a total DVOA of 10.4% (11th). Their defense ranks third in rushing yards allowed (78.4 per game) and third in yards per carry allowed (3.32), and they are facing a Jaguars’ offense that ranks 31st in rushing yards (79.0 per game) and 30th in yards per carry (3.38). Jacksonville is missing starting left tackle Anton Harrison (knee), and they’re facing Will Anderson Jr., who leads the NFL with 7.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. The Jaguars rank 30th in passing yards allowed (288.2 per game) and 25th in yards per pass attempt allowed (8.1), and C.J. Stroud has thrown zero interceptions this season. The head-to-head history has produced an average margin of just 3.3 points over the last 10 meetings — right at the current spread. In a game between a desperate team with a real pass rush and a favorite missing its left tackle, this has all the makings of a one-score game.
