The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) are planning to update their general council after questions were raised over the election of its executive committee 11 months ago.
The committee was elected by councillors nominated by ad hoc committees of various sports federations during the interim government. The National Sports Council (NSC) have recently formed new ad hoc committees for 28 sports federations, leaving most members of the BOA’s current executive committee and general council without links to the present leadership of those federations. The situation have also exposed a lack of coordination between the BOA and the federations.
Against this backdrop, nine members have resigned from the BOA executive committee, with several more reportedly considering similar moves.
The BOA now want to convene a general council meeting soon to approve its activities for the 2025-26 fiscal year. As part of the process, it has taken the initiative to update its list of councillors.
The association has sent letters to the newly formed ad hoc committees of various sports federations and associations, asking each to nominate two councillors. The letters, signed by the BOA director general on 14 October, have reached the newly constituted committees.
The nominees, however, will require approval from the BOA executive committee.
