TEHRAN, October 12. /TASS/. Pakistan and Qatar continue their mediatory roles in the Iran-US conflict, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said.
"Technically, countries such as Pakistan and Qatar continue to serve as intermediaries between Iran and the United States," he said at a briefing.
Baghaei noted that Tehran and Washington continue to exchange communications. He said Iran is currently reviewing US proposals concerning a seven-day plan to restore security in the Strait of Hormuz.
The United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed the memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, overnight on July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing Tehran of violating the agreements regarding the Strait of Hormuz. The US administration subsequently signaled, in effect, that it was ending the use of large-scale military force against Iran and shifting toward an attempt to economically strangle the country through sanctions. On October 10, the US president did not rule out the possibility of further strikes against the Islamic Republic.
