Media outlets under Taliban control have reported the sale of 7,234 carats of emeralds from the province.
Bakhtar News Agency, which is under Taliban control, reported on Tuesday, October 13, that the emeralds were sold at auction for 6,994,500 Afghanis.
Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have significantly expanded mining operations across the country and the sale of mineral products.
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera reported on October 9 that emeralds from Panjshir Province worth nearly 400 million afghanis, equivalent to $6.12 million, had been sold since the beginning of 2026.
Al Jazeera also reported that despite the increase in emerald sales, miners in Panjshir continue to work with rudimentary tools and face serious threats to their lives due to landslides, avalanches, and falling rocks.
