Union Home Minister Amit Shah has praised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Assam Police for their relentless crackdown on narcotics, describing it as a decisive strike against drug networks. In a post on X, Shah credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” and reaffirmed that the fight against drugs would continue with unwavering determination.
Shah emphasized the scale of the operation, noting that it had led to 945 arrests, 547 registered cases, and narcotics seizures worth over ₹182 crore. Authorities also took action against 703 identified hotspots, while properties valued at nearly ₹731 crore are under attachment proceedings. He emphasized that the recently unveiled Vision Document on Narcotics Control 2026–29 reflects the government’s commitment to dismantling drug cartels, targeting their financial structures, and safeguarding the youth.
The Assam Police’s statewide anti-drug operation on October 12 was a major component of the campaign. It resulted in the execution of 73 non-bailable warrants, the arrest of 47 absconders including 10 from other northeastern states and the seizure or destruction of 134,539 litres of liquor. Enforcement efforts extended to 2,229 raids under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, inspections of 3,662 business establishments, and surveys of 2,943 educational institutions. Additionally, 157 proposals were processed under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Public awareness was also a key focus, with 633 programmes reaching over 112,000 citizens and students. These efforts align with the broader Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which last month launched the 100-week Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan. The initiative, beginning with the Rashtriya Sankalp Samaroh on September 18, mobilized youth through pledges, signature campaigns, and community-led activities across 300 educational institutions nationwide.
