Tonight may not mark the end of the Kentucky high school football regular season, but for a majority of Louisville-area teams, it presents the final chance at improving playoff positioning.
Several squads clinched first-place district finishes last week, securing multiple home playoff games should they advance. Plenty more matchups are on tap with similar stakes tonight, with district titles or even runner-up spoils on the line.
The headliners are in two local KHSAA Class 6A districts. Trinity can clinch the Class 6A, District Five crown when it visits Oldham County for a 7 p.m. kickoff, while Male and Bullitt East will square off for the Class 6A, District Four title at 7:30. Holy Cross and Bethlehem will both finish behind Kentucky Country Day in Class A, District Two, but the winner of tonight's matchup will host a first-round playoff game Nov. 6 or 7. Bullitt Central and North Bullitt have the same win-to-stay-home stakes in their Class 5A, District Four clash (Fairdale clinched the top spot by beating Bullitt Central last week).
Tonight and all season long, The Courier Journal will provide game stories taking you beyond the final score, photographs bringing you close to the field and reactions on video from the area's top players and coaches.
