KuCoin has scheduled five new equity-benchmark perpetual contracts for October 12 at 09:00 UTC, expanding its stablecoin-settled derivatives offering. Its notice says eligible users in supported countries and regions will be able to access the products with leverage of up to 20 times.
The announced symbols are APPUSDT, TMFUSDT, SKUUUSDT, MRNAUSDT and SOFIUSDT. KuCoin associates them with AppLovin, a long-duration U.S. Treasury bond index, the GraniteShares 2x Long SK Hynix Daily ETF, Moderna and SoFi respectively. Each uses USDT settlement and an eight-hour funding interval, with quoted funding caps of positive or negative 2%.
Despite the platform’s stock-index terminology, these are synthetic derivatives rather than delivered shares. The announcement explicitly says they do not confer ownership of stocks or securities. At this early-Monday preparation checkpoint, the scheduled opening was still ahead; live availability and individual account eligibility had not been independently tested.
The named benchmarks are not interchangeable
The set includes different kinds of reference exposure. A company share, a bond index and a leveraged daily-reset ETF are not identical underlying instruments simply because their derivative contracts share a settlement currency. Users need to read the exact benchmark description rather than interpret every symbol as a conventional company stock.
This is particularly relevant when the reference itself embeds leverage. There can be a difference between the movement of a referenced product and the movement of the asset or company that appears in its name. Adding derivative leverage creates another layer of exposure; it does not turn the contract into a direct holding of the underlying security.
Leverage changes the capital at risk
For a simplified hypothetical example, 500 units of collateral supporting 10,000 units of notional exposure represents 20-times leverage. A 1% adverse move in that exposure is 100 units before funding, fees and other effects, or 20% of the initial collateral. This is arithmetic, not a prediction of a contract’s liquidation threshold.
Actual liquidation depends on the venue’s margin rules, the applicable mark price, collateral and maintenance requirements. A maximum leverage figure should not be read as a recommended setting or a promise that a position can survive every move smaller than its initial-margin fraction.
Our funding-rate explainer describes another holding cost: payments between the sides of a perpetual position. A quoted cap is a boundary in the announced specification, not proof of the rate a position will pay or receive in a particular interval.
An announcement is not an execution record
The scheduled listing establishes the platform’s stated plan. It does not establish completed trading volume, the quality of price tracking, spreads or order depth after opening. Those are separate observations that need to be checked against the actual market.
Availability also remains jurisdiction-dependent. Sharing a USDT settlement convention does not make access universal or eliminate restrictions imposed by platform compliance requirements. Readers should distinguish whether a product exists from whether their own account is permitted to use it.
The immediate development is the five-contract timetable and published structure. After the scheduled opening, the relevant follow-up is verified service availability and current specifications, not an assumption that the announced maximum leverage or funding caps will remain unchanged indefinitely.
