Egypt’s Al-Azhar University, one of the most prominent religious educational institutions in the Islamic world, has called for the formation of an “urgent mediation committee” to end conflicts across the Middle East.
Al Jazeera reported early Monday, October 19, that the university had emphasized the need to end violence throughout the region.
According to the report, the appeal comes as violence has intensified across the region, including in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
In recent months, clashes between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, as well as between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, have escalated.
However, efforts to end the conflicts in the region have so far produced no tangible results.
