Oct. 24—Spokane's defense allowed a stoppage time goal and the Velocity lost to FC Naples 1-0 in their regular-season finale at Pacific Coast Sports Complex on Saturday in Naples, Florida.
In 90+5', Naples midfielder Juan Osorio intercepted a Bryce Meredith pass intended for Andre Lewis at centerfield. Osorio found Ferrin on the fastbreak, and Ferrin took two dribbles to find an open space outside the penalty area before slicing a long-range shot between multiple defenders and into the bottom corner of the frame.
The Velocity's offense pressured Naples' defense with 26 touches and nine of 14 shots inside the box. But it struggled to find the net with only five on-target attempts.
Spokane's defense, which finished with 31 clearances, held FC Naples' offense to 11 shots and four on target.
Spokane's first attempt didn't arrive until the 13th minute when its scoring leader, Shavon John-Brown, shot from outside the penalty box that was blocked. In the same minute, Naples goalkeeper Edward Delgado saved a potential goal from Joe Gallardo in the bottom left corner of the frame.
Spokane nearly had a game-winner of its own in 90+3', when Camron Miller headed a Nil Vinyals cross following a corner kick from inside the box, but it was grabbed by Delgado, who finished with six saves.
Neco Brett led the Velocity with four shots — two on target — and five touches inside the opposing box. Miller led all players with nine clearances. He also added one block.
