Both collisions occurred mid-afternoon on Tuesday.

An elderly cyclist was transported to hospital in critical condition and a teen pedestrian had serious, but not-life-threatening injuries after they were struck by vehicles in separate incidents in Ottawa’s south end on Tuesday afternoon.

Spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps said the Ottawa Paramedic Service responded to the intersection of Fairbanks Avenue and Crestview Road in the Alta Vista neighbourhood just after 2 p.m. for a collision between the cyclist and a pickup truck.
Deschamps said paramedics stabilized the cyclist both at the scene and during transport to hospital, where he was in critical condition.

Paramedics were also called to the intersection of Earl Armstrong Road and Canyon Walk Drive in Riverside South at about the same time after the male in his late teens was struck by another vehicle.
The teen was transported to hospital in serious condition.
The Ottawa Police Service posted online that temporary road closures would remain in effect in both areas during the investigation of the collisions.
Earlier on Tuesday, a 23-year-old woman was transported to hospital for life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a vehicle on Riverside Drive near the RA Centre.
Deschamps said these and other similar collisions served as reminders of the general need to promote road safety.
Drivers need to remain aware of cyclists and pedestrians and others who might be temporarily in their vehicles’ blind spots, while the “vulnerable” road users need to remain aware of their surroundings and should take measures to make themselves as visible as possible, such as by wearing reflective clothing, particularly as daylight hours decrease in the fall, Deschamps said.
Police previously reported that a pedestrian who died in hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Sandy Hill on Oct. 14 was the 30th traffic fatality on Ottawa streets in 2026.
