Snoop Dogg‘s daughter Cori Broadus has landed a role in Doggyland, the 3D animated children’s series co-created by her father, fulfilling a childhood dream.
This marks the animated debut for Broadus, who plays Maxine, a confident, sassy labradoodle, in the series, which was co-created by Snoop Dogg, Emmy-nominated producer and creator Claude Brooks and Grammy-winning artist and producer October London. Doggyland also marks the beginning of a dream come true for the actress, who has harbored ambitions of becoming part of the world of children’s animation for two decades. As a youngster, she auditioned for the animated series The Backyardigans, but didn’t land the part. Now, she now only is voicing a character but also helped create her.
Broadus was hands-on throughout the character development process alongside Brooks, helping shape Maxine’s personality, look and spirit. The 27-year-old describes the character as “an extension of her inner child” — bold, playful, expressive and unapologetically herself. Maxine makes her first appearance in the music video for “You’re Enough,” the title track from Doggyland’s latest full-length album.
“I’m so excited to be part of Doggyland and bring Maxine to life,” Broadus said. “I love that she’s confident, a little sassy, and encourages kids to be themselves. ‘You’re Enough’ is such a special message because I want every kid to know they’re already perfect just being who they are.”
Doggyland features a cast of dogs who sing, rap and dance to fun and educational songs that promote social-emotional and cognitive development in young children. Since its inception in 2022, Doggyland has produced a variety of educational songs about affirmations, letters, numbers, colors, animals, good habits and accepting others. The series focuses on delivering positive messages through music and storytelling, making learning an enjoyable experience for young viewers.
The show focuses on a group of puppies led by Bow Wizzle (voiced by Snoop Dogg), who serves as the adult mentor to the rest of the cast, including Woofee (voiced by London), a smooth singer who is always cheering on his friends; Yap Yap, a high-spirited character who is known for her positive and cheery personality; Chow Wow, an empathic team player, and Barks-A-Locks, the curious one of the group who is always discovering new adventures. The show, which has been honored with an NAACP Image Award, Telly Award and Mom’s Choice Award, has amassed 1.3 million subscribers to the Doggyland YouTube channel.
Said Snoop Dogg (whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr.): “Looking back at where we are now with Doggyland and everything, it’s wild. When Cori was just an itty-bitty pup, she was always saying how she wanted to be part of a cartoon, and now here we are. Not only is she a cartoon character, but it’s one she helped create herself. What we’ve got here is a beautiful, full-circle moment, and I’m just so proud to be a part of it as her father. Maxine’s got Cori’s confidence, her personality and a little bit of that secret ingredient. I’m talking about sass. What’s even better is that Maxine is coming in hot with that patented Doggyland positive message. She’s here to let the kids know they should love themselves because you’re already enough just the way you are. Life lesson!”
Broadus also is a professional DJ, performing under the moniker of Princess Broadus, and an entrepreneur, working in the worlds of beauty, fashion and music, with a growing focus on building brands and experiences that challenge traditional ideas of identity and culture.
The message behind Maxine’s debut in “You’re Enough” is said be at the heart of Doggyland’s mission. Maxine encourages young viewers to embrace their individuality and reminds them that there is nothing they need to change about themselves in order to be worthy, lovable or enough.
Maxine’s debut follows on the heels of the introduction of Banjo Bucky, voiced by country music singer Jake Tankersley.
