Overview:
Oracle leads reported tech layoffs, followed by Amazon, Dell and Meta in 2026.
Layoffs.fyi recorded 131,382 job cuts across 314 companies in 2026.
Artificial intelligence, restructuring and cost-control measures are shaping workforce decisions across technology companies.
The technology industry saw another year of widespread job cuts in 2026, with major companies reducing their workforces amid restructuring, cost-control measures, and a shift in investment priorities toward artificial intelligence (AI). Oracle, Amazon, Dell and Meta are among the companies that have reported some of the largest workforce reductions this year.
According to Layoffs.fyi, 131,382 employees had been laid off across 314 companies in 2026, as of its latest available tracker update. The figures highlight the scale of the employment pressure facing the technology sector, even as companies continue to invest in cloud computing, AI infrastructure and digital services.
The exact totals vary across trackers because they use different reporting periods and methods to count job losses. However, several major technology companies consistently feature among the largest contributors to layoffs this year.
Oracle Leads 2026 Tech Layoff Count
Oracle tops the list, with 21,000 job cuts recorded by Layoffs.fyi. The software giant’s workforce reduction reflects the scale of restructuring as technology companies reassess operations and spending priorities.
The company’s annual financial disclosure, filed on June 23, reported about 21,000 job cuts over the preceding year, roughly 13% of its workforce, according to Yahoo Tech. Oracle also acknowledged that AI adoption could affect its staffing requirements.
“The adoption and deployment of AI technologies across our operations have resulted, and may continue to result, in reductions to our workforce,” the company said in its filing.
Amazon and Dell Follow with Major Job Cuts
Amazon ranks second on the Layoffs.fyi list, with 17,536 employees laid off across seven reported events. The company’s cuts include a major reduction in corporate positions, along with further workforce changes during the year.
Dell follows with 11,000 reported job cuts. The company’s reduction places it among the biggest contributors to technology-sector layoffs in 2026, reflecting the scale of workforce adjustments at established hardware and enterprise technology businesses.
These figures show layoffs have spread beyond startups and smaller tech firms. Large, established companies are also reassessing staffing levels as they adjust their business structures and investment plans.
Meta and Microsoft Also Reduce Workforces
Meta cut 10,400 jobs across four reported events, making it another major contributor to the industry’s workforce reductions. The company has been navigating changing investment priorities while continuing to spend heavily on artificial intelligence and related infrastructure.
Microsoft reported 5,300 job cuts across two events on the Layoffs.fyi tracker. A separate report by Yahoo Tech said the company announced cuts affecting 4,800 jobs in July, including substantial reductions within its Xbox gaming division.
Xbox chief Asha Sharma said the company would eliminate 3,200 roles through fiscal year 2027, with 1,600 employees laid off on July 6. The gaming division has been among the areas most affected by Microsoft’s restructuring efforts.

Block, Cisco and Uber Among Other Major Companies
Several other companies have also announced substantial workforce reductions in 2026.
Block and Cisco each recorded 4,000 job cuts on the Layoffs.fyi tracker. Uber followed with 3,300, while financial software company Intuit reported 3,000 job cuts. Australian logistics technology company WiseTech recorded 2,000 layoffs.
Block’s reduction stands out because of its scale relative to the company’s workforce. The cuts reflect a broader pattern of technology businesses reassessing organizational structures and attempting to operate with leaner teams.
Cisco’s workforce changes come as the networking company shifts investment towards AI and growth areas. Meanwhile, Intuit has been restructuring its operations and reallocating resources as it seeks to simplify its organization.
The figures also show that job losses aren’t confined to companies developing consumer-facing technology. Enterprise software providers, networking businesses, financial technology companies and logistics platforms have all featured prominently in the 2026 layoff figures.

Is Artificial Intelligence Driving Layoffs?
Artificial intelligence has emerged as a key factor in workforce decisions across the technology sector, though it is not the only reason companies are cutting jobs.
Some businesses have explicitly linked reductions to AI adoption, productivity gains, or plans to shift spending toward AI development. Others have cited organizational restructuring, efficiency measures, and shifts in business priorities.
WorkforceSignal, another layoff tracker, reported that 41% of employees affected by the major layoffs it tracked in 2026 worked at companies that connected the cuts to AI. Its methodology counts reductions when companies or credible reporting explicitly identify AI as a factor.
That distinction matters. Not every job cut can be attributed to automation, and companies may pursue multiple objectives when reducing headcount. The available figures therefore show the scale of layoffs rather than a definitive breakdown of how many jobs were eliminated specifically because of AI.
Tech Layoffs Continue Despite Investment in AI
The largest reported job cuts in 2026 have affected some of the world’s biggest technology companies, including Oracle, Amazon, Dell and Meta. Their decisions point to an industry where substantial investment in new technologies runs alongside efforts to control costs and restructure operations.
The 2026 figures show that restructuring spans multiple segments of the technology business. Whether driven by AI, efficiency targets, or changing corporate priorities, large-scale layoffs remain a defining feature of the sector this year.
