The newest high school athletic association in Alabama has named its executive director.
The Gulf States Independent Athletic Association has named former Macon East headmaster Glynn Lott as the new executive director of the GSIAA on Oct. 16, according to a press release. Lott will assume his new role of executive director immediately following his resignation from Macon East Academy.
It makes sense for Lott to be named as the executive director for the GSIAA after he did a lot of the groundwork and traveling around the state to see if it the GSIAA could work.
On July 24, Lott presented private schools both in the AISA and the AHSAA with the framework for the GSIAA. Now, the organization has a founding board that just completed its bylaws. The GSIAA is expected to open its membership up on Nov. 1 to a mix of private and public schools in Alabama and neighboring southeast states.
The GSIAA also has a logo and a working website.
Lott has spent nearly his entire professional career in independent school athletics.
His career began coaching boys and girls basketball at Macon Academy from 1985 to 1990, followed by a tenure at Meadowview Christian School from 1991 to 1994. When Macon Academy relocated to Cecil in 1995 as Macon East Academy, Lott joined as the head football coach before adding athletic director to his responsibilities in 1997. Over his 32-year tenure at Macon East, Lott built championship-caliber programs across football, basketball, baseball, and softball.
In addition to his coaching duties, Lott also served director of the AISA Coaches Association starting in 2008, as past president of the AISA Headmasters Association, and as a member of the AISA board of directors.
In 2013, Lott was inducted into the AISA Hall of Fame.
The AISA will dissolve athletics after the 2026-2027 school year, and the anticipation is most AISA schools will join the GSIAA.
