Kathmandu, October 25
The security situation in the Kathmandu Valley remained normal during the Dashain festival.
Except for minor and isolated incidents, no major crimes were reported in the valley, according to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office in Ranipokhari.
AIG Sushil Singh Rathour said that, apart from road accidents, minor thefts and gambling, no major crimes occurred in the valley during the festival.
Police have arrested and investigated some people suspected of involvement in thefts, while others are yet to be apprehended. The risk of theft tends to increase during Dashain as many people leave the valley to celebrate the festival in their hometowns and villages.
Police also seized around 60 sacks of firecrackers. Several people involved in playing or organising gambling activities, including card games and Langur Burja, were arrested and charged.
Checkpoints were established at entry and exit points to monitor drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Rathour said action was also taken against more than 35 drivers who were found carrying passengers while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
More than 7,000 police personnel were deployed across the valley under the festival security plan.
