Asian markets mixed as South Korea’s Kospi jumps 3.8% in early trading

South Korea's Kospi rises sharply, gaining 3.8 percent in early trading.

Things are also looking up in Tokyo, Japan. The Nikkei 225 index is up 1.2 percent, and the Topix is up 1.1 percent.

In China, however, the mood is gloomier. Shenzhen is down 0.2 percent and Shanghai 0.4 percent.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng is down 0.2 percent.
