(ANSA) - ROME, 12 OTT - Premier Giorgia Meloni admitted Monday that "Italian growth is weak" while at the same time hailing the resilience of the Italian economy and how it "withstood the wave of shocks" it has been hit by in recent years as she addressed the assembly of the Assolombarda industry association in Milan "I want to thank you on behalf of the nation for your contribution," Meloni told the business leaders.
"If Italy is strong, influential, and admired around the world, the credit goes, above all, to businesses and their workers—to those who refuse to make do, because in a rapidly moving world, those who fall behind or hesitate are at risk of having no place.
"Industry that seeks to create certainly needs determination, but it also needs a State that supports it—one that views it as an ally rather than merely an entity to be taxed, or even directly controlled or actively hindered." The premier said data for the first six months of the year suggest Italy's GDP could grow by as much as 1% this year. Her government had previously forecast growth of 0.6% for 2026.
