Gigabyte’s WRX90 AI TOP motherboard supports up to 2 TB of ECC DDR5 memory, cooled by a dual-fan system designed to reduce temperatures by up to 43 °C. It also features seven PCIe 5.0 slots, with a demonstrated configuration supporting up to nine GPUs through additional external connections.
Gigabyte has detailed its WRX90 AI TOP motherboard for AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors, targeting AI workstations that need enormous memory capacity and multiple GPUs. The board supports up to 2 TB of ECC DDR5 memory, with a massive dual-fan cooler designed to reduce memory temperatures by up to 43 °C, and offers seven PCIe 5.0 slots for graphics cards and other expansion devices.
The WRX90 AI TOP uses AMD’s WRX90 chipset and sTR5 socket, supporting Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 WX and 7000 WX processors. Its eight DDR5 RDIMM slots operate across eight memory channels and support up to 2 TB of ECC memory, making the platform suitable for demanding local AI workloads and other memory-intensive applications.
To keep the densely packed memory modules cool, Gigabyte has equipped the board with its DDR Wind Blade XTREME Duo module. The large cooling system uses two fans to direct airflow across the DIMM slots, with Gigabyte claiming it can reduce memory temperatures by up to 43 °C. The board also features active cooling for the voltage regulator modules (VRMs) and chipset, helping maintain stability under sustained workloads.
The motherboard has seven full-length PCIe 5.0 slots connected directly to the processor. Six support x16 bandwidth, while the seventh operates at x8. Gigabyte also demonstrated a configuration with up to nine GPUs at Computex 2026, using two additional graphics cards connected externally through the board’s MCIO 8i interfaces. These connectors also support storage and other PCIe devices, although some connections share bandwidth.
The power subsystem uses a 32+3+3+3-phase design with 110 A power stages and a 14-layer PCB. Storage options include two PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots, one PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot, and four SATA ports. One MCIO connector shares bandwidth with the two PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots, so those connections cannot all be used simultaneously.
Other features include dual Intel X710 10GbE networking, two USB4 Type-C ports, six rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, and an ASPEED AST2600 controller for remote management through IPMI. The board supports Windows 11 and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and works with Gigabyte’s AI TOP Utility for local AI computing.
The WRX90 AI TOP measures 305 × 330 mm and uses an E-ATX form factor. Gigabyte has not announced pricing or a retail availability date.

I’ve been fascinated by computers, electronics and modern technology since childhood. I started writing IT-news at high school and have been doing it continuously for more than 10 years. During this time, I have worked for many media outlets, and now I am a news editor at 3DNews. Sometimes I also write smartphone reviews. In July 2024, I decided to try my hand at writing news on Notebookcheck. When I'm not working, I like to play videogames, do puzzles, and travel.
