(ANSA) - ROME, 14 OTT - Industrial employers group Confindustria on Wednesday forecast 2026 GDP growth at 1%, slowing to 0.6% in 2027.
"In 2026, GDP will grow by +1%, exceeding expectations," estimates Confindustria's research center in its autumn economic forecast report. However, it warns that this is "fragile growth." "The slowdown will be felt in 2027": projected growth for that year stands at just +0.6%, driven by "weakness in the final phase of 2026 and only a moderate recovery at the start of the year.
"Energy, inflation, and interest rates are holding back growth." Energy costs "remain the Italian economy's greatest vulnerability," to the point where they "could wipe out the projected GDP growth" for the coming year: Confindustria economists warn that growth would be zero if "Brent crude averages around $126 per barrel over the year."
