Four unidentified persons allegedly involved in a house burglary escaped after leading the Special Branch police in a chase through parts of the district on Wednesday (October 22).
The Erode Special Branch police had been searching for a suspect in connection with a house burglary in Sivagiri, where the lock of a house was reportedly broken.
The police received information that the suspect was travelling in a car allegedly used in the burglary and moving within the jurisdiction of the Erode Taluk police station. After examining CCTV footage, the police traced the vehicle and followed it. When the police attempted to intercept the car in the Solar area, the occupants sped away. The police pursued the vehicle through Muthur to Kodumudi.
The police subsequently alerted patrol personnel attached to the Malayampalayam police station and attempted to intercept the car by closing the railway gate at Karanampalayam.
However, on finding the gate closed, the occupants allegedly rammed the car into it and fled. The four occupants escaped before the police could apprehend them. The Special Branch police have launched a search for the suspects.
