After 12 seasons, a regional championship, and sending multiple players to the NFL, Mike Blaut is stepping down as the head football coach at Roger Bacon.
Blaut's final game will be Oct. 23, 2026, against Purcell Marian. The Spartans are 2-7 heading into the regular-season finale.
"Roger Bacon thanks Coach Mike Blaut for 12 seasons, leading Spartan football," the school said in a social media post. "He guided the team to its first regional championship and built lasting relationships with generations of players and families. We're grateful for his service."

A Roger Bacon graduate in the class of 1988, Blaut took over the head coaching job ahead of the 2015 season. In that time, he accumulated a 67-61-1 overall record, posting back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2019 and 2020. The 2020 team, led by eventual Ohio Mr. Football Corey Kiner, finished 10-1 in the state semifinals after winning Roger Bacon's first-ever regional title.
In Blaut's time with the Spartans, he saw two players go on to play in the NFL. Kiner, who played college football at LSU and Cincinnati, is currently a running back for New England after stints with Minnesota and Arizona. James Thompson Jr. was a star defensive lineman for Roger Bacon in 2019, who played at Wisconsin and Illinois. The San Francisco 49ers signed him this season.
Blaut spent seven seasons as an assistant coach for Roger Bacon in the 90s, then returned to serve as quarterback coach and offensive coordinator in 2008 until being promoted to head coach. Outside of football, he teaches social studies at Oak Hills.
