Rockstar Games is facing new questions over claims that it has given workers bonuses for spying on IWGB’s private Discord server. The Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain has accused the studio of this. Since Rockstar Games has eliminated more than 30 employees, the GTA developers have been facing allegations from IWGB.
Though the studio claimed that the firing of the employees is mostly connected to leaking confidential information, the workers of the Union mentioned that one employee reported details about union talks, member numbers, and organizers to company leaders for more than a year. They believe these reports helped management track the union’s growth before the firings.
The former staff members say Rockstar targeted them because of their union work. Rockstar, however, denies all the claims. It says the dismissals were linked to the sharing of confidential information. The tribunal case involves 23 former employees and aims to examine why they lost their jobs.
The case has also raised questions about privacy at work. Game studios need to protect details about unreleased titles, but workers also want space to discuss pay and working conditions. How companies handle these issues can affect trust between staff and managers.

Big Games Face Long Development Cycles and Staff Pressure
A game like GTA 6 isn’t a one-man thing. It takes years of hard work and loads of creativity. The development team must build the in-game world, place characters, test whether they are working properly, fix bugs, and then polish the game for launch. As the launch date comes closer, overtime becomes the norm, and that’s what brings job changes for most employees. They want a better opportunity with fewer working hours.
This is a common concern across the gaming industry. However, job change never means any wrongdoing. This particular issue is centered on union activities and Rockstar firing employees. Workers and unions often fight for fair pay, job security, and clear rules. They generally demand a stronger voice in workplace decisions. The case highlights a wider challenge for game studios: protecting their work while treating staff fairly.
