KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has postponed the Academic Year-End Assessment (UASA), scheduled for next week, due to the haze affecting the country.
In a statement today, the ministry said the decision was made after taking into account concerns raised by parents and guardians over their children's health, particularly those who would need to attend school to sit for the assessment.
"As UASA is a school-based assessment, schools have been given the flexibility to reschedule it.
"The revised schedule will be communicated to parents and guardians by their respective schools at a later date," the statement said.
The ministry acknowledged the dilemma faced by parents who wanted to protect their children's health but were also concerned that their absence from school could result in them missing an important assessment.
It said the health and safety of students would remain its priority while ensuring that all assessment processes were carried out in an orderly manner.
