DeMeco Ryans deflected a couple of questions about Marvin Harrison Jr. during his postgame news conference in Nashville on Sunday, then settled the matter on his way out. The Houston Texans had just beaten the Tennessee Titans 26-3 for their first win of the season, and their coach was smiling when he stepped back from the podium.
“You guys want to know, huh? Yes, we traded for Marvin Harrison. See ya!” Ryans said.
Harrison was inactive for Arizona’s home game against the Detroit Lions, which was still in the first quarter when Ryans made his announcement. Word that the Cardinals were moving the No. 4 pick of the 2024 draft broke on Saturday, with no destination attached.
Houston sends a 2027 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-rounder to Arizona for Harrison and a 2027 seventh, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The year on that second-rounder was the last sticking point. The Texans had offered a 2028 second before agreeing to the 2027 pick the Cardinals wanted.
In late September, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that one team believed Harrison could be had for “possibly a quality Day 3 pick.” Arizona held its position and came away with a second-rounder in next spring’s draft, a far stronger return than that projection.

The #AZCardinals are trading Marvin Harrison Jr to the #Texans in a blockbuster, per me and @AdamSchefter.
It’s Harrison and a 7th rounder to Houston for a 2nd rounder this year and a 6th rounder. https://t.co/Abx4fH7vNg

Why Houston met Arizona’s asking price at 1-4
The Texans made the deal three games behind Jacksonville in the AFC South, with a receiver room that has been short since August. Jayden Higgins, penciled in as the starter opposite Nico Collins, tore his ACL in a joint practice with the Raiders. Collins then missed early-season games with a hamstring injury, leaving C.J. Stroud without his top two targets.
Harrison is due $4 million this season and $5.62 million in 2027, and Arizona already paid his $22.5 million signing bonus. That leaves the draft capital as the real price, and Houston decided a second-round pick was worth a 6-foot-3, 220-pound receiver who never found a role in Arizona.
Harrison had five catches on 12 targets for 85 yards and a touchdown through four games under first-year coach Mike LaFleur. He also hired agents Todd France and Tory Dandy on Sept. 23 after going without representation through his first two seasons.

At Ohio State in 2022, with Stroud at quarterback, Harrison caught 77 passes for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns. Houston is betting the reunion brings some of that back.
“I think he brings us a dynamic playmaker. Somebody who runs great routes, can catch really any ball,” Stroud said after the win.
Harrison’s first chance to suit up for Houston comes in London next week against Jacksonville, the team sitting three games clear of the Texans in the division.
