RAWALPINDI, Oct 22: England captain Harry Brook created history on Thursday by becoming the first batter from his country to score a double century in men’s one-day international cricket, smashing 202 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi.
Brook reached the landmark in just 114 deliveries, setting a new record for the fastest double century in men’s ODIs. He surpassed the previous mark held by India’s Shubman Gill, who had reached 200 in 117 balls against the West Indies last month.
The England skipper’s remarkable innings also eclipsed the country’s previous highest individual ODI score of 182, made by Ben Stokes against New Zealand at The Oval in 2023.
Brook was dismissed off the final delivery of England’s innings after striking 202, becoming the 14th batter to register a double century in men’s ODI cricket. His effort ranks among the 12 highest individual scores in the format.
The 27-year-old’s previous ODI best was an unbeaten 136, also scored against Sri Lanka. (Agencies)
