Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the India Bloc’s movement to “protect democracy” would continue following its march towards the Supreme Court against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision(SIR) of electoral rolls.
In an X post, Gandhi said he had invited India Bloc leaders, opposition MPs, student organisations and civil society representatives to his residence for a tea meeting, after which they would address the media.
"Today I have invited the leaders of the INDIA alliance, opposition MPs, student organizations, and civil society comrades to my home for tea. In this people's movement to protect democracy, we are all together - and this movement will continue relentlessly. After tea, we will all come together and present our case in front of the media. All protests are one."

The statement comes a day after Rahul Gandhi led opposition leaders and supporters in a march from Barakhamba Road towards the Supreme Court in Delhi. Eleven opposition leaders subsequently filed a writ petition challenging aspects of the Election Commission of India’s ongoing SIR exercise.
However, the Supreme Court Registry flagged 14 defects in the petition filed by him, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and nine other INDIA bloc leaders.
The Registry also sought clarification on the inclusion of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners SS Sandhu and Vivek Joshi as respondents in the petition filed under Article 32 of the Constitution.
The petitioners have alleged irregularities in the exercise of the Election Commission’s powers during the electoral roll revision and sought judicial scrutiny of the poll panel’s decisions.
The petition includes leaders from the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT) and other opposition parties.
