Mississippi State heads into its matchup with Oklahoma on Saturday looking to put an end to its losing streak.
The Bulldogs have dropped back-to-back games, including a 31-0 shutout loss at LSU that exposed how limited this offense is without star quarterback Kamario Taylor, who missed the game due to injury and was seen on the sideline wearing a boot on his right foot.
Unfortunately for Mississippi State, the Sooners have one of the best defenses in college football, allowing the fifth-fewest total yards (260.7) per game, along with just 18.2 points per game. The Bulldogs are now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in SEC play, needing a win on Saturday to get its season back on track.
However, Taylor remains day-to-day with his injury, and head coach Jeff Lebby hasn't committed to playing him. Speaking on Monday, Lebby said Taylor has not recovered from his injury and still has work to do before he could return.
If Taylor can't play, sophomore Parker Puckett would get another start after completing 16 of 26 passes for 121 yards and an interception against LSU.

Taylor has quickly emerged as one of the top breakout quarterbacks in college football. After appearing in a limited role last year, he's taken control of Mississippi State's offense and helped the Bulldogs rattle off four straight wins to open the season.
Through five games, Taylor has completed 66.2% of his passes for 1,450 yards and 17 touchdowns with four interceptions, along with 159 rushing yards and one rushing score. He's been one of the most exciting players to watch in the country, and his early success even put him in the Heisman conversation.

Without Taylor, the Bulldogs managed just 121 passing yards and failed to score any points against LSU. Mississippi State scored 30 or more points in all of their first four games with Taylor under center, including a 62-13 rout of UL Monroe in the season opener.
Oklahoma's defense can fly around, and if Taylor were to miss that game, it could put an end to Mississippi State's playoff hopes. After the Sooners, Mississippi State will go on the road to face No. 19 Texas before a home stretch with games against Vanderbilt, Auburn, and Tennessee Tech. They'll close out their season against rival Ole Miss on Nov. 27.
