Five more suspects have reportedly been arrested in connection with the shooting of tusker Kawanthissa and related illegal activities.
The arrests were made during a special joint search operation conducted by the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC), the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit and police officers in the relevant area.
Investigations have so far revealed that the main suspect initially arrested in connection with the incident was directly involved in shooting tusker Kawanthissa.
The other suspects are suspected of involvement in other illegal operations and related activities in the area.
Wildlife officials and Galgamuwa Police are conducting further questioning of the suspects.
Investigations have also been expanded to determine whether the firearms used in the shooting and an organised network involved in the illegal targeting of wild animals were connected to the incident.
