Kabompo East Member of Parliament (MP) Ambrose Lufuma has called on young people to engage in productive activities that will contribute to the attainment of the Grow Zambia Agenda.
Mr Lufuma says youths should be active participants in national development by becoming producers, innovators, entrepreneurs and job creators rather than relying on formal employment.
Contributing to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address during the official opening of the First Session of the 14th National Assembly, Mr Lufuma, a former Defence Minister, also called for the upgrading of feeder roads leading to productive areas in Kabompo to gravel standard.
He said the government will continue creating opportunities for young people to acquire practical skills, establish businesses and participate in productive sectors such as agriculture and construction.
In his median speech to the House, the former minister of defense cited the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) grants, loans, empowerment programmes and National Service training as important interventions that can help empower young people.
Mr Lufuma stated that agriculture remains the mainstay of the constituency’s economy, with an estimated 95 percent of the population engaged in farming and related activities.
The MP called for improved access to farming inputs, extension services, appropriate technologies, irrigation, storage facilities, satellite depots and reliable markets to enhance agricultural production and food security.
Mr Lufuma has further urged the government to upgrade township roads in Kabompo to improve connectivity and facilitate economic activities.
Meanwhile, Nkombwa East MP Jairos Simbeye has called for a results-oriented public service, saying effective delivery of government programmes requires commitment, discipline and proper time management.
Mr Simbeye says public officers should focus on delivering tangible results rather than merely reporting for work.
He has commended the National Assembly for promoting professionalism and orderly service delivery, citing the conduct of security personnel and staff as an example of the standards that should be upheld across public institutions.
He stressed that all stakeholders must work together to support President Hakainde Hichilema’s Grow Zambia Agenda and ensure the country achieves its development targets.
The MP cautioned against spreading misinformation about government programmes, particularly the school feeding programme, saying such conduct can discourage beneficiaries from accessing essential services.
On housing, Mr Simbeye encouraged residents to take advantage of land available in rural constituencies such as Nkombwa Constituency to support settlement and development, rather than concentrating on limited plots in urban areas.
He said efficient public service delivery at all levels is essential to restoring public confidence and ensuring that government policies and programmes benefit citizens.
He further called for unity of purpose among public officers and other stakeholders, saying collective efforts are necessary for Zambia to achieve its national development aspirations.
