One of Northern Ireland’s best-known magazines has been sold to a major media company, according to reports.
According to a story in the Irish News, the Ulster Tatler has been sold to Media Concierge, the group that owns the News Letter.
The sale brings to an end six decades of ownership of the magazine by the Sherry family, with the late Richard Sherry having founded the publication in the 1960s.
Purchased for an undisclosed sum, the Tatler will become part of a media group that owns a number of local newspapers on the island of Ireland, as well as long-running British local titles such as The Scotsman and The Yorkshire Post.
The deal reportedly also includes the sale of Ulster Tatler Interiors, the awards events the Ulster Tatler Awards and the Influential Women awards as well as “a range of publishing contracts.”
Earlier this year, Media Concierge’s subsidiary, the Iconic Media Group, purchased the Alpha Media Group, taking ownership of 13 titles including the Ulster Gazette in Armagh, Tyrone Courier and Ballymena Guardian.
The Irish News quotes a Media Concierge spokesperson saying of the Ulster Tatler deal, “It’s our first acquisition in Northern Ireland outside news media, and it adds premium lifestyle publishing and live events to our portfolio.”
Malcolm Denmark, the chief Executive of Media Concierge, said: “This shows we intend to be part of every side of community life here, not just the headlines.
“Our job is to protect what makes the Tatler special and give it the investment and reach to grow in print, digital and events.”
The Ulster Tatler was launched in 1966, and today describes itself as “Northern Ireland’s largest and most widely read monthly magazine.”
It covers social events in Northern Ireland, as well as beauty, local fashion, healthcare, weddings, interior design and other topics.
Ulster Journals, Limited, the business that operates the Ulster Tatler, employed 19 people according to its most recently published accounts.
The company reported having around £100,000 of cash in bank and at hand in the year ending 30 September 2025, and total shareholders’ funds of over £201,000.
