KUALA LUMPUR: Comedian and radio presenter Jep Sepahtu has taken legal action over alleged defamatory statements made against him by his former groupmate turned businessman, Shuib.
Taking to Threads to address the escalating drama, Jep — real name Mohd Nadzri Zainal Abidin — revealed that he had launched legal proceedings following strict advice from his lawyer.
The 41-year-old funnyman shared that the legal action was already underway well before Shuib posted a public video apology on social media earlier today.
"I would also like to apologise because by the time you released this video, I had already taken legal action on the advice of my lawyer," Jep wrote in the caption accompanying his post.
Making it clear that the matter went beyond friendly banter, Jep added: "Because this is truly a malicious slander against me. This is not about making a snide remark; this is about defamation."
In the same post, Jep shared the clip of Shuib's video statement, in which Shuib offered a public apology.
Shuib had earlier broken his nearly week-long silence to apologise to Jep for comments made alongside fellow comedian Mamat, after the pair made disparaging remarks and poked fun at Jep during a recent podcast.
Reflecting on the fallout, Shuib admitted that the controversy had taken a heavy personal toll on him, while also harming his family and his businesses.
The bad blood flared up on Oct 8 when Jep took to Instagram to express his frustration over Shuib constantly bringing up their past friendship on podcasts.
Although Jep acknowledged that he had previously apologised for past misunderstandings, he expressed frustration at the issue being repeatedly brought up online for public entertainment.
The feud has since captured widespread public attention, with most social media users criticising Shuib and Mamat for their actions.
