Notre Dame football has already has its 2027 schedule set, but what it didn’t know is who they’ll be playing in the season opener, but they do now.
According to FBSchedules.com, the Irish will start its slate off in Notre Dame Stadium hosting Kent State. While everyone loves to see early top competition on a schedule, it makes sense for head coach Marcus Freeman to have an earlier game against the MAC school.
Notre Dame has struggled early in seasons under Freeman, so having KSU to open the season makes plenty of sense. There is also the fact that the Irish could be breaking in a new starting quarterback, as CJ Carr has had plenty of mock drafts projecting him into the first round, which would be very hard to pass up.
The Irish also have Auburn, Clemson, BYU, Duke, Michigan State, Virginia Tech and Virginia on its 2027 schedule, which could be heavily scrutinized. At the moment, just one of Notre Dame’s opponents for next year are ranked, the Cougars.
