Malawi’s biggest beach party is back this weekend, and organisers say they are almost ready. After a two-year break, the CapeStars Sand Music Festival returns to Mangochi with 90 per cent of ground preparations complete.

Impakt Events Management lead coordinator Yamikani Chinguwo said the compound is taking shape. “Standard, VIP and artists’ car parks have been secured inside the compound, the camping site cleared and a bamboo fence erected,” he said. Sound, stage and lights are due to arrive this afternoon and should be finished by Thursday. Local bar and food vendors have already been given their spots.
With fuel shortages still biting, the organisers have arranged a lift. Six minibuses, run with logistics firms, will carry festival-goers from Blantyre and Lilongwe to Mangochi and back between Friday and Sunday. Patrons will have to pay for the seats.
CapeStars finance director Rachel Mijiga says the company is betting big on the 15th edition. “SandFest is the biggest asset for marketing tourism in the country at the moment. What is good for Malawi tourism is good for CapeStars as a brand,” she said.
The line-up is the headline act. Zambia’s Yo Maps will take to the stage, alongside amapiano star Zeze Kingston, Kelly Kay, Piksy, Ikon and many more.
