Bears get promising trade rumor on 17-sack veteran who once played in Chicago originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
With the expectation that the Los Angeles Chargers will sell at the NFL trade deadline, the Chicago Bears are in a very interesting position to land some of those guys.
Specifically, rumors suggest the Bears could be interested in Khalil Mack. Mack, an edge rusher who can get to the quarterback at a high level, is 35 and isn't the same player he once was.
However, this Bears defense, which has proven above average despite its needs on that side of the ball, would only get better with a player of his caliber. Mack has proven himself throughout his long career, which began in 2014.
That includes a 17-sack season for the Chargers in 2023. He also played for the Bears earlier in his career.
According to the latest report, the Bears seem interested, though they still have a few things to figure out on their end.
“The Bears got franchise quarterback Caleb Williams back from injury. They have a few weeks to see what that looks like before the deadline. But the unit clearly lacks bite and has been turnover-dependent and Mack is a player they know well from his time there,” Jason La Canfora wrote.
With Caleb Williams back, the Bears are expected to be one of the top teams in the NFL, a squad with a chance to win a Super Bowl.
Not that Mack guarantees anything, just as any other player traded at the deadline doesn't, but it makes Chicago a much better team, and that's what it has to do at this year's trade deadline.
