At least for now, the Indianapolis Colts aren't discussing any potential Jonathan Taylor trades, according to The Athletic's Jonathan Jones. However, that could change.
"The Indianapolis Colts are not entertaining discussions of a potential Jonathan Taylor trade. At least not yet," Jones wrote in his weekly column.
Jones adds that before the Colts make any decisions about Taylor's future, they want to see how the next few weeks unfold.
Although the Colts sit at 2-4 with the season seemingly on the verge of spiraling, the organization wants to attempt to turn things around before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
“Indy ownership loves him,” one team executive told Jones. “They’d have to drop more games to move him.”
The Colts' next three games are against 5-0 Minnesota, 4-2 Jacksonville -- both of which are on the road -- and then 2-4 Dallas. If Indianapolis continues to lose, that could obviously change how they approach the deadline.
"It would make some sense for the Colts, under interim general manager Ed Dodds, to at least wait until after the divisional game against the AFC South-leading Jags to decide on Taylor," added Jones.
Although the Colts did just sign Taylor to a two-year, $44 million contract extension just a few months ago, as ESPN's Dan Graziano noted, the recency of that deal does not make it impossible to trade the star running back.
Sources have told Jones that the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings could be potential trade suitors for Taylor if the Colts are looking to move him.
