Hello everyone, and welcome to the live blog for the Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka 1st ODI of the tri-series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Sri Lanka have won the toss and chosen to bowl first, so Pakistan will bat, with debutant Saad Baig at No. 4.
Toss result:
Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first. Kusal Mendis said he expects batting to be easier in the second innings, while Shaheen Shah Afridi said Pakistan would have batted first anyway because the wicket is fresh.
Pre-match:
Pakistan open their ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with England the third side in a double-league event. The top two teams after the league stage will meet in the final in Lahore on October 31, and all three nations are using the series to build towards the 2027 World Cup.
Shaheen Shah Afridi leads Pakistan, whose ODI squad includes Babar Azam, Salman Ali Agha and Haris Rauf after they sat out the recent T20I series. Wrist spinners Shadab Khan and Sufyan Moqim are out of the opener with illness, and Saad Baig will make his debut as wicketkeeper.
Sri Lanka, led by Kusal Mendis, are without the injured Pathum Nissanka and Wanindu Hasaranga. Dasun Shanaka has been recalled, and Avishka Fernando has come into the side. Pakistan won the preceding T20I series against them 2-1, with Sri Lanka taking the final match.
