The Regional Government of the Azores opened applications for scholarships and tuition fee subsidies for the 2026/2027 academic year, aiming to reduce families’ financial burden and ensure equal access to education.

According to a statement from the Azorean government, under the Higher Education Student Scholarship Program (PABEEES), the government will award 450 scholarships—each worth 2,750 euros annually, paid in three instalments.
This support is for students who have lived in the Autonomous Region of the Azores for at least three years, receive the family allowance (abono de família) in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd income bracket, and meet all other legal eligibility requirements.
Additionally, the PAPPEES program provides an annual subsidy equivalent to one-third of the maximum tuition fee established for public higher education.
Students who meet the residency requirements, income thresholds, and other eligibility conditions set out in the applicable legislation are eligible to apply for this program.
Applications for both programs, managed through the Regional Secretariat for Health and Social Security, can be submitted until 11:59 pm (local time) on 31 October 2026 via https://apoioaoensinosuperior.azores.gov.pt, after prior registration.
By renewing these programs, the Azorean Government continues to “support Azorean students and their families, helping to lower the costs associated with attending higher education” and “ensuring more equitable conditions for access to and continued participation in this level of education,” the Azorean executive (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM) further emphasises.
